UPDATE: Police Make Arrest in Elizabeth Double Homicide

Union County Prosecutor Theodore Romankow told WCBS that an arrest has been made in connection to the double homicide that took place in Elizabeth Saturday morning.

Armando Perez, 24, of Elizabeth was arrested at a home in Roselle, without incident early Sunday. Perez has been charged with several weapons offenses and two counts of murder in connection with the deaths of Luis Mesa and Daniel Torres on Saturday.

In a statement released the morning of the murders, Romankow said that police arrived to the Mini Mall in response to a report of shots fired. When they arrived, they found Mesa, 30, and Torres, 27, lying the parking lot of the bar suffering from gunshot wounds. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

The melee broke out at El Buen Gusto bar located in the Elizabeth Mini Mall on Elizabeth Avenue, near 6th Street around 4 a.m. Several patrons involved in the fight were transported to local hospitals after suffering minor injuries, unrelated to gunshot wounds.
