A 34-year-old Trenton man was stabbed late Wednesday night in Wilmington, Delaware, said Wilmington police spokesman Master Sgt. Steven Barnes.
Delaware police say the stabbing occurred around 11:12 p.m. after the victim, driving along Interstate 95 with his girlfriend, decided to exit the Interstate at the BP gas station at Fourth and Jackson Streets in order to get his cell phone charger out of the trunk of his car.
As the victim searched his trunk, he heard someone say, "Why you messing with my girl?" After that, the man felt a knife being plunged into his back, The Courier-Post said
The victim fell to the ground after he was stabbed and never got a look at his assailant. His girlfriend, who remained in the vehicle, did not see the assailant either.
The man, who was treated at the scene by New Castle County paramedics, was later transported to Christiana Hospital where his condition was reported as serious, paramedic spokesman Cpl. Peter Small told the Courier-Post. His condition was eventually upgraded to stable, Sergeant Barnes said.
The investigation continues and police are asking anyone with information on the attack to call Detective Ronald Muniz at 576-3667 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at (800) TIP-3333.
