The man who shot himself as he stood in front of Raleigh police last week at 4716 Parr Vista Court has died from that self-inflicted wound, Raleigh Police Department spokesman Jim Sughrue said Monday.

Authorities say the man, who has not been identified, agreed to voluntarily accompany Raleigh police to the home for reasons not made clear to the media.

While at that home, the man agreed to voluntarily accompany police to the Detective Division of the Raleigh police department, for reasons unknown. At some point, for an unknown reason, the man pulled out a personal firearm and fired one shot hitting himself in the head.

The victim was transported to WakeMed with injuries initially reported to be non life-threatening, but his condition later deteriorated and he died Saturday night.

Officials say police on the scene never discharged their firearms during the incident, but did deploy a taser in an effort to prevent the man from shooting himself.

The 7 p.m. suicide attempt occurred in the backyard of the Parr Vista Court home last Thursday.

Raleigh Police have not released the reason why the man shot himself, why the man was with Raleigh police officers to begin with or who lived at the home on Parr Vista Court.

The shooting remains under investigation.
