CNN: Self-defense and Murder...A Fine Line

The father of Daniel Adkins Jr.,  a man shot on April 3 in front of a Taco Bell Restaurant in Phoenix, Arizona after an altercation with a driver, who is not being identified and has not been charged with a crime, says the man reacted hastily.

Adkins father, Daniel Adkins Sr. told CNN that while he believes in gun rights, he also believes that people need to "be responsible and know when to use one."

"Why didn't he shoot my son in the leg? It would've stopped him," said the elder Adkins. "He hit him right straight in the heart. He shot to kill."

According to the shooter, the two men were exchanging words when Adkins Jr. allegedly swung at him with a pipe or bat causing the 22-year-old man to fear what Adkins Jr. would do with the weapon so he drew his .40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun and shot Adkins Jr. He then called 911 to report the shooting.
