New York City police say a vehicle driving in the southbound left lane of the Bronx River Parkway spun out of control Sunday afternoon after hitting a median then veering across several lanes of the highway before flying over a railing where the vehicle came to rest approximately 150 feet into the southeastern section of the Bronx Zoo.
A spokeswoman for the Bronx Zoo says that portion of the Zoo has no animals and is not open to the public. The 12:30 p.m. accident left seven people, including three children, dead.
This is a developing story. We will post additional details as they are made available.
