During a time when the economy is bad, jobs are disappearing, and our kids are more educationally crippled than ever, there seems to be a light shining through, that is taking a grasp upon our youth. Education is taking the forefront in the news again. When the Urban Prep Charter School, located in the tough Chicago neighborhood of Englewood, announced that it would be graduating their entire upper class into awaiting colleges, many applauded this accomplishment. It just went to show that there are many schools still around looking to help our children succeed. It should be the educational blueprint for all schools, both charter and public schools.
Soon to follow in the footsteps of an all-male prep school, is Smith Academy for Excellence (SAFE) located in Fort Wayne, IN. Opening in the Fall of 2012, Smith Academy for Excellence will emphasize preparing the students for college, financial literacy, character building, and service education. Founders Thomas Smith and his two sons, Corey and Cameron have collectively served the community's youth for over 41 years combined. The Smith Academy for Excellence will service grades six through nine, and add another year above and below every year until it is a fully functional K-12 grade school. This is something so needed in the community to begin to bring interest back to education for today's youth.
