Exclusive Interview: with "Las Supper" group feat. Big Daddy Kane & Show Tyme

Las Supper – new mega group consisting of group members legendary Big Daddy Kane and Show Tyme are on the move and on the rise! We had the pleasure of catching up with Las Supper and getting all of the details of what’s to expect from the group which also consists of a nine piece band.

Big Daddy Kane whom we all remember from back in the day is widely considered to be one of the most influential and skilled MCs in hip hop. His classic hit "Ain't No Half Steppin" hit #25 on the Rolling Stone's list of The 50 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs of All Time. From the 80's - 90's Kane had major hits and even became a Grammy Award winning artist. Now in 2013 he has formed a group with member Show Tyme.

Show Tyme who was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey is the epitome of soul expression. He credits his stage name to have come from Case. One day Case just introduced him as “Show Tyme” because he thought the name fit his personality…and he says “it just stuck”.

The style of music of Las Supper is a mixture of both hip hop and R&B, in Show Tyme’s own words he calls it “gumbo”. He says imagine if “MC Lyte was in the Supremes” that is the type of vibe their sound has.  The name Las Supper actually came from Kane. Reason behind the group’s title is because Kane feels the way music is going; this could be the last interpretation of soul music. If you are going through trying times their music will definitely bring joy to you. The message is so relevant that it would touch any ethnicity.

Hip Hop Now versus Hip Hop back then: There is definitely a transformation that has taken place. “I’m sorry but I have a problem with a man saying he is going to put a molly in a drink…you are not cool for doing that, you get no cool points for that”, Show Tyme says. Music today you have to almost question if some of these rappers even have a conscience. Getting back to loving each other is their mission. If they plant the seed then maybe people will catch on and gravitate towards what really matters! Our next generation is going to lead us into the future and we have to take a stand and promote positivity and not promiscuity. Young kids are quoting songs that they have no idea what they are actually saying. Somewhere along the way standards were thrown out of the window and the communication demonstrated through Las Supper’s lyrics will hopefully bring some sense of awareness of what’s really cool.

Past or Present Collaborations: If they had a chance to collaborate with any artist past or present, the first on their list for a "blast from the past" would be Otis Redding. From the new school they wouldn’t mind collaborating with Sharon Jones, Adele, CeeLo or even Rafael Sadiq.

TayLang’s Signature Question: If you were in another part of the world where no one knew of Las Supper how would you introduce yourselves?

“Las Supper is a hybrid super group with Big Daddy Kane and Show Tyme. If you love yourself, you are going to love this music.”

It was such a pleasure interviewing Las Supper and I wish nothing but prospering success in the present and future for them. You can get their cd "Back to the Future" via iTunes.
