REVIEW:: Wale: The Gifted

By: Kristopher Nabors

Wale the self-proclaimed “Ambassador of Rap” dropped “The Gifted”. Wale’s third album has hands down put motivational lyricism to the forefront of hip-hop. Wale’s “The Gifted” touches upon each dynamic of rhythmic expression. Elegant piano, guitar, and drum usage leads into the intellectual point of view of Wale throughout the album. Wale’s witty lyrical examination of failure, success, relationships, experiences, sneakers, and sports culture clearly project his voice. This allows any and everybody to relate and connect to his lyrics. The diverse musical selection provides a wealth of appeasing tracks with top tier features from Sam Dew,Meek Mill, CeeLo Green, Yo Gotti, Lyfe Jennings, Nicki Minaj, Juicy J, Rihanna, Wiz Khalifa, 2Chainz, and Tiara Thomas.

Wale’s confidence and maturity in his lyrical ability is clearly reflected in all sixteen tracks. He hosted his album release concert Monday June 24th in New York at the BestBuy Theater, which truly was a star-studded event. Performances with the Lox, Black Cobain,Yo Gotti, Dj Khalid and a formal introduction of  NBA all-star Kevin Durant as the newest member of Roc Nation Sports filled the evening. This sold out concert celebration was the perfect segway into the release of “The Gifted”.  This breathe of fresh air to Hip-hop is a vacation away from the wack generic lyrics of others and is highly recommended!!!
