'Cash for Clunkers' Scam. Buyer Beware

We should have known it would be just a matter of time before somebody cooked up a scheme to profit illegally off of the "Cash for Clunkers" deal. Authorities are warning people to not respond to emails or telephone calls from "official" car dealer representatives promising to "secure" you a slot and deal with the "Cash for Clunkers" sale. They ask you to give them your checking account information and agree to a "small processing fee" for "securing" your slot with "Cash for Clunkers." It's a scam, mi gentes. There are no guaranteed "slots" and the only thing you need in order to guarantee your ability to qualify for the sale is a vehicle that is not fuel-efficient. Contact your local car dealership to find out if your car qualifies or click here to have your questions answered.

Potential buyers...BEWARE.
