2-Year-Old Girl Saved by Dad After Falling Into Water Off South Street Seaport


A two-year-old girl fell from a boat docked at the South Street Seaport and lived thanks to the heroic efforts of her father and another man.


David Anderson, of California dove into the 40-degree water when he realized his little girl, Bridgette, had somehow slipped through a railing off the gangplank and fell into the water below.

Eric Stinger, an eyewitness, told the New York Daily News, "He (the father) jumped in like a scene out of a movie. He was pulling things out of his pockets as he was running down the steps. He didn't hesitate."

Little Bridgette was motionless when he father pulled her from the water and placed her atop his chest face up, but began crying moments later causing the crowd of onlookers to sigh in relief.

A Frenchman jumped into the water to help Bridgette and her daddy reach safety and and was thanked by Bridgette's mom.

"I'd like to offer him my congratulations and best wishes, and I want to talk to him personally," the mother told the New York Daily News.
