Second Attorney in Rowan Towers Rape Case Cries Foul

Kevin Main, the attorney representing the 17-year-old boy accused of raping a seven-year-old girl at the Rowan Towers weeks ago has said evidence, including the emergency room rape kit examination of the victim does not jive with recent evidence made available to him against his client.

At the onset of this investigation, Trenton investigators asserted that the arrests of those in custody were as a result of confessions made by the 13 and 14-year-old defendants, who later implicated Leary and the 17-year-old.

That assertion along with the videotaped interrogations has Main crying foul. The attorney says the videotaped interrogations shows police utilizing bullying tactics in order to scare the teenagers into incriminating themselves.

Furthermore, Main says that a summary of the young girl's emergency room rape examination leaves doubt about whether the victim was raped at all.

"(The report) it's entirely inconsistent. I would have expected injuries and other obvious evidence," said Main.

Prosecutors are attempting to try the 17-year-old as an adult which has afforded Main access to evidence not yet turned over to the attorney's of the other defendants in order to prepare for the state's pending motion against his client.

Main's client is one of five people in custody and charged with the rape of two sisters at a party in a vacant apartment in the drug and violence infested Rowan Towers. The youngest victim's 15-year-old sister allegedly sold herself for sex with the men and boys then accepted money from them to touch her little sister. The touching graduated to gang rape.

There has been no word on the attorney representing the 15-year-old sister who has also been charged in connection with the gang rape of her little sister. She remains incarcerated at a juvenile detention facility.

Main's findings come a week after the father of the victims came forward in defense of the 17-year-old, Gregory Leary and Timear Lewis, who he says were not responsible for the crimes, but tried to stop the sexual assault of his daughters and are in line with those of Robin Lord, the attorney representing Leary.

At his bail hearing, Lord told the judge that she did not believe the 7-year-old was raped and said her clients so-called self-implication came as a result of police pressure and coercion the victim received by officials.

This latest act of violence prompted a huge response from community leaders in Trenton such as mayoral candidate Emmanuel Shahid Watson, who organized a rally to send the message that violence against the people and children of Trenton is unacceptable and would not be tolerated. Watson was joined by music industry heavyweights like Russell Simmons and Jay-Z.
