Northern New Jersey police have made a second arrest in connection with the death of a 91-year-old Normandy WW II veteran in his Essex Fells home Thursday.
Shaun Woodson, of East Orange has been charged with Felony murder, robbery and weapons charges for the strangulation and beating death of Robert Nevius, who police say was also stabbed in his neck during the robbery of his home. Reginald Anthony, a friend of Woodson's and a part-time chauffeur driver for Nevius, has also been arrested in connection with the veterans death.
Police found Nevius after a friend telephone the precinct stating he was worried because he could not reach Nevius at his home. Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert Laurin said Nevius fought for his life as Woodson and Anthony allegedly robbed the man's home of jewelry. An autopsy concluded that Nevius died of blunt force trauma, strangulation and a stab wound to his neck.
Prior to their attack upon Nevius, Anthony had driven the man's wife to their Cooperative apartment in New York City, then returned to rob his employer. Anthony was filling in for the Nevius' regular chauffeur, an aunt who had been driving the couple for at least 12 years.
Woodson and Anthony have been booked into jail in lieu of $1.5 and $1 million bonds. The men face 30 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges.
