News anchor Desiree Fontaine of WTNH-TV in New Haven, Connecticut apologized to her viewers during her arraignment in Milford Superior Court on a misdemeanor larceny charge Monday.

Fontaine, 33, was arrested after she was busted for stealing $104.98 in cologne, jewelry and clothing from a Sears store in the Westfield Connecticut Post mall. When she was caught, Fontaine told the officer that she was a freelance reporter doing "something on the side." She pleaded not guilty at her arraignment and is scheduled to reappear in court on July 27.

WTNH says the Fontaine, who is also the host of 'Connecticut Style,' is on personal leave from her job. Her lawyer Hugh F. Keefe said: "I think it's one of those cases that people ought to withhold judgment and keep in mind that things aren't always as simple as they seem at first blush."

The beautiful Fontaine has been working for WTNH, an ABC affiliate, since she joined the station in September 2007 and is known for the charitable work she does.
