Tweeters: 'The King' Has Entered the Building

The king has entered the building, tweeters. King James, that is. He hasn't tweeted, but the most talked about free agent is now an official member of Twitter.com. Lebron James, the king of Akron, opened the account on the social networking site Tuesday.

1010wins.com reported that Twitter publicist Keith Estabrook confirmed the moniker "kingjames" is indeed that of James.

James had reportedly been reluctant to join Twitter or Facebook and had even joked in the past about fellow athletes discussing their personal lives and antics online. Somehow, New Orleans Hornets guard Chris Paul, one of James' closest friends managed to talk the Ohio native into creating an account.

Paul tweeted how he wasn't successful at getting James to disclose which NBA team he'd join, but he wrote how he talked James into joining Twitter and less than an hour later, the bronze medal winner had almost 18,000 followers.

By 3:10 p.m., that number had swelled to 71,431, including DailySportsLink/nba and NYCsidewalker. And the man hasn't tweeted a single word, just as he hasn't announced what team we'll see him playing for next season.

Whatever James' decision is it could affect the future of several franchises and the city of Cleveland's economy, 1010wins.com reported.

James is one of three mega free agents— Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh—who have the world mesmerized as we wait and debate what teams the three may or may not sign to. As of the 2009–10 season, James recorded 34 triple-doubles in his career, with 28 in the regular season and six in the postseason.

He was selected as the number one pick in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Cavaliers, who he has spent his first seven seasons with, and signed a US$90 million shoe contract with Nike at the tender age of 18.
