Jersey City Heights Robbery Nets Five Arrests

Police say they arrested two teenagers and two adults in connection with the early morning robbery of a Jersey City Heights man near his home.

Johnathan Lee Zevas, 21, of Belmont Avenue, Kayla Phillips, 18 of Winfield Avenue, as well as two 17-year-old boys of Kennedy Boulevard and Thorne Street were all arrested inside a McDonald's restaurant after police, acting on descriptions of the suspects from the police dispatcher, spotted the four in the restaurant and took them into custody shortly after the robbery.

The victim, 20, said he was in front of his New York Avenue in the Heights emptying trash around 12:32 a.m. when the three males attacked him, taking turns punching him in the face while a "number of females looked on," The Jersey Journal reported.

The victim's gold chain, wallet and cell phone which were taken during the robbery, were later found next to a soda dispenser inside the McDonald's restaurant after the suspects were lcoated.

Phillips faces an additional charge after police found her to be in possession of multiple bags of suspected marijuana, drugpolicycentral.com reported.

A 16-year-old Palisade Avenue girl, who the victim said was present during the robbery, was spotted at Griffith Street and Central Avenue and arrested after police found 13 bags of marijuana on her person, The Jersey Journal reported.
