The National Hurricane Center in Miami has announced that Tropical Storm Colin has formed in the Atlantic.
Early forecasts show Colin is far out in the Atlantic and say it's track at this time shows it may brush the U.S. Atlantic seaboard rather than the Gulf of Mexico, where BP continues to struggle to plug the oil well.
The NHC says Colin, located about 945 miles east of the Lesser Antilles, moving west-northwest near 23 mph, had reached winds near 40 mph (65 kph) early Tuesday and some additional strengthening is expected over the next few days.
If Colin develops into a full-blown Hurricane, forecaster says it would not begin to threaten the Eastern Seaboard until sometime late Sunday or early next week.
