Queens Cop Claims Fellow Officers Stormed His Home Beat Him, Family

The NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau has launched an investigation into the claims of a Queens NYPD police officer who says he was beaten by fellow officers who showed up at his home after his wife called 911 to report a man with a gun, The New York Daily News reported.

Larry Jackson, a six-year veteran of the NYPD, who is assigned to the 110th precinct suffered a broken right arm and bruises from being kicked and beaten with billy clubs after officers from the 113th precinct responded to his wife's 911 call.

"We called the police, and this is what happened to me. I'm shocked, angry and disappointed," said Jackson.

Jackson's nightmare began after his wife, Charlene, telephoned 911 around 1:15 a.m. Sunday after armed thugs began harassing guests attending her daughters 21st birthday celebration at their Rochdale home. Her husband, an imposing figure at 6-foot-3 and weighing 300 pounds, was unarmed and alone, but managed to disperse the marauding thugs.

Just as the thugs were walking off, a sergeant from the 113th precinct arrived and got out of his car. As Charlene Jackson began telling the officer what happened, her niece yelled that there was a fight inside the house.

Another officer exited his police cruiser, ran inside and struck a friend of the family with his billy club, according to the Jackson's. Larry Jackson says the sergeant then pushed him with his baton, and when he grabbed the sergeant, another cop began choking him from behind. Jackson went on to say that he was knocked down and landed on his 82-year-old mother-in-law who briefly lost consciousness.

"I'm covering my face and getting hit everywhere," said Larry Jackson. "Then somebody pepper sprayed me."

Charlene Jackson, a city bus driver, told the NY Daily News that when she called 911, she identified her husband as a police officer to the dispatcher and told 911 that there was a young man with a gun.

"Who do we call now? It's very hurtful to know you can't trust the police officers in your neighborhood. I feel like the 113th Precinct is our enemy," said Charlene Jackson

The couple said in all, a total of six family members and friends were assaulted with police batons and that their stepson, a cousin and a nephew were later charged with disorderly conduct.

Though prosecutors and the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau are probing the officer's claims, Larry Jackson's gun and badge were taken and he was placed on modified duty.

Jackson, who is African-American, told the News that one of the most disturbing things about that Sunday night was that there were supervisors on the scene who did nothing about the excessive force the police officers, who were white, used. He added that their assault might have been racially motivated.

"They didn't treat me like a house-owner calling for help," said Jackson. "Everyone who lives in the 113th Precinct is not a perp."

Investigators from IAB took a DNA sample from Jackson on Wednesday and told his lawyer, Eric Sanders, of the Law Firm of Jeffrey Goldberg in Lake Success, it was for testing against the officers' confiscated batons.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Jackson "was injured as a result of a dispute at the party." A spokeswoman did not return a call for further comment, the News reported.
