An Irvington High School teacher has been arrested in the stabbing death of her boyfriend, The New Jersey Newsroom reported.

According to prosecutor’s office spokeswoman Katherine Carter, officers responding to a 911 call on September 30 arrived at 20 Headley Terrace around 2:23 p.m. where they found 38-year-old Erik Stubblefield dead.

Irvington police Lt. Tracy Bowers told the Star-Ledger that Sharonda Wilson told police she stabbed her live-in boyfriend in self-defense after he charged her during a heated argument over whether or she was being unfaithful to him.

Wilson claimed she attempted to allay her boyfriend's suspicions, but the argument turned physical and he "charged her," said Bowers. That's apparently when Wilson "used a knife to defend herself."

Emergency medical services attempted to revive Stubblefield, but were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:54 p.m., The Star-Ledger reported.

Acting Essex County Prosecutor Robert D. Laurino announced Friday that Wilson, 31, of Irvington has been charged with murder and weapons offenses.

Wilson has been a high school teacher at Irvington High School since 2007 where she taught video and audio production. Irvington school board president, Paul Inman, said the district went into crisis mode on Friday morning, making sure that counselors were on hand for students who wanted or needed them, The Star-Ledger reported.

Inman added that everyone was praying for Wilson and Stubblefield's family.

Neighbors of the couple
gathered outside the white, two-story two-family residence the couple shared and told reporters they never heard shouting or fighting coming from the home.

“If they were arguing, they were real discreet,” said Kevin Thelusma, 20, who lives across the street.

Former student's of Wilson's described her as a woman who cared about people.

"She was nice," said 21-year-old Jeffrey Smith, a former student at Irvington High School who took Wilson’s audio and video class during his senior year.

"She was cool," said Smith who added that he was shocked to hear what happened.

Though 26-year-old Levon Pierre did not have Wilson as a teacher when he was a student at the high school, he said Wilson made it a point to say hello and asked students how they were doing, both academically and personally.

“She’s a good person,” said Pierre.

Judge Verna Leath set Wilson's bond at $250,000 and she was lodged into the Essex County Correctional Facility.

Bower's said they had little information concerning Stubblefield, who she said may be a resident of Middletown, Delaware.
