Pa., Mom Charged After Punching 9-Year-Old in ER

A Chester, Pa mom earned the "Shame, Shame, Shame" badge of the month in August after she was arrested for allegedly punching her 9-year-old daughter in the face while the two sat in an emergency room, Black Political Thought Blogspot reported.

Media reports weren't clear on why 36-year-old Crystal Davis and her daughter were at Taylor Hospital in Ridley Park or what prompted the attack, police said.

Ridley Park Police Chief Thomas Byrne said police were called to Taylor Hospital's emergency room around 9 p.m. on Aug. 19 on a disorderly person call. When his officers arrived, witnesses told them a woman (Davis) was "acting in a crazed manner," screaming obscenities and that she punched a child in the face, according to the affidavit of probable cause written by Ridley Park Police Cpl. Mark F. Bascelli, who interviewed the witnesses.

A female witness told Bascelli she attempted to intervene after seeing Davis punch the child, but Davis threatened her and medical staff also attempting to render aid to the 9-year-old before Davis took off, leaving her child behind, Delco Times.com reported.

Armed with a description of the punching momma and her vehicle tag number, Bascelli hit the streets. Bascelli spotted Davis' vehicle near Sellers Avenue and Chester Pike and pulled her over. At that point, Davis was “out of control," and screaming obscenities at Bascelli, who took her into custody.

In addition to the assault, harassment and reckless endangerment charges, Davis was slapped with driving without a valid registration and a suspended drivers license, the affidavit stated.

Court records indicate that Davis has been charged with driving with a suspended license four times since March. Her rap sheet included, robbery, theft and driving under the influence, Philly.com reported.

Davis, 36, was held in lieu of a $20,000 bond and assigned a preliminary hearing on Sept. 13 in Prospect Park District Court. Since we can find no reports that she's wanted on bail jumping charges, we're safely assuming she appeared in court.

Medical staff did examine the little girl, who is now in the custody of her grandparents.
