Poet's Corner: "Shooting Up"

God is in my bloodstream,
And I hope I don't fail this
Drug test. Too much euphoria
Is toxic. Too much spirit
Is deadly to the flesh
And society and all her
Constructs -- massive structures
As ancient and monstrous
As the Colossus of Rhodes.
One day, too, our society
Will sink beneath the sands
In a metallic earthquake.
When that happens, I shall
Shoot up, like heroin addicts
Or a field of furious flowers.
