Over the past few weeks the internet and various social media outlets have been buzzing about Rick Ross and the rape lyrics in his latest song, 'U.O.E.N.O'. In the song, Ross says, "Put a molly all in her champagne/ She ain't even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that/ She ain't even know it." Disgusting. Clearly, Ross is describing rape. Although he has since apologized and insists that this is all a misunderstanding and a misinterpretation, we know better. Well, most of us anyway.
In light of the rape lyric controversy, the popular sneaker company, Reebok dropped Ross as a spokesperson. Now, I thought this was a great move but I was shocked to see the number of people tweeting in support of Ross and dragging Reebok. What? This man raps about raping a woman, loses his endorsement because of it and you're mad at Reebok for dropping him? I thought I was missing something at first, but then I saw more and more tweets in support of Ross and the actions described in the lyrics. The fact that some people actually agreed with Ross and cosigned his actions turned my stomach and made me think of my own two young daughters and the seriousness of the matter. Call me naive, but I had no idea just how deep the rape culture was. Heck, it's so deep that Ross actually thought he could rap about it and come out unscathed. #epicfail
Like it or not, you must admit that Ross is rapping about reality (contrary to his forced apology). According to www.statisticbrain.com 89,000 rape cases are reported in the US annually. This number alone is appalling and it's only 'reported' cases. Many women don't come forward for various reasons (fear, shame, etc.). Our young daughters and sons need to understand the seriousness of rape. It's not just a rap lyric, it's real life. You cannot slip something in a person's drink and then have unconsentual sex with them, and yes, it's still rape if 'she ain't even know it'. You cannot force a woman to have sex with you because you know her or you think she somehow owes it to you because you took her on a date. In no way does knowing a person, taking them on a date, buying them something or any other convoluted scenario a rapist could dream up constitute rape. There is no rationalizing rape. There is no justifying rape. As cliche as it may sound to some, no means no. It's just that simple. We have to make sure that we explain this to our sons so they do not become perpetrators of this crime and to our daughters so they do not become their victims. Prom season is right around the corner, have a talk with your sons and daughters and make sure they understand exactly what rape is. Don't make the assumption that they already know. It's always better to be safe, than sorry.
The Ad Council used to run a PSA with the tagline 'you can learn a lot from a dummy', well Rick Ross was that dummy in this instance. He has forced me to read more about the rape culture in this country and he opened my eyes to the ignorance of individuals who support it.
Thanks for the lesson Rick. I hope you learned one too.

By Geekswagg
The internet is all a buzz with the latest information regarding Rick Ross canceling the rest of the MMG tour and real G's threatening his life. It was only a matter of time before the lyrics clashed with real gangsters who are willing to test your "G" code.

OK Coral on a Miami Street
Girls Brawl After Rick Ross PartyBy Alyson Mance
Hello Beautiful has reported that two females got to scrapping on a Miami street after attending a Rick Ross album party. Read on:
"One would think that most girls know that physically fighting each other is really tacky, but fighting in a cocktail dress is the ultimate recipe for absolute disaster. Breasts, weaves, heels, and clutches go flying everywhere, while most men hesitate to break it up lest they ruin a premium boob/crotch view for everyone else. So when these girls duked it out after a Rick Ross album release party in MIami, a lot of guys stood around watching, while other women shook their heads at how much these chicks were shaming themselves."
I watched the video and it was sad to say the least, but when I saw a female come from outside the brawl and join in on the punching and kicking, I became disgusted. It reminded me of that scene in Mexico during one of the final episodes of "Bad Girls Club." A bunch of females in evening attire jumping somebody; acting like a pack of wolves.
I don't want to think about what they may have been fighting over - I'm sure it was something too stupid to even contemplate. I've been in nightclubs recently and seen females brewing for a fight because another female in the club was wearing the same dress, sitting with her ex-boyfriend or looked at her "funny." And believe it or not, these females will call themselves women who are "keeping it real." Yes, real tacky and real stupid. Watch The Video of The Brawl

IS RICK ROSS A YOUTUBE GANGSTA?
FEBRUARY 9--The rapper Rick Ross would have his fans believe that he made millions trafficking cocaine while running with one of Miami's violent street gangs. Of course, that claim took a hit recently with the disclosure that Ross (real name: William Leonard Roberts) actually once worked as a corrections officer, news that was met with derision in hip-hop circles. Now, records show that Ross's own lawyer last year disputed reports that the performer has ever been affiliated with any gang. Ross's purported hoodlum connections were explored last April during a deposition of Officer Rey Hernandez, a Miami Beach cop who arrested Ross in January 2008 on gun and marijuana charges (one of the few blemishes on Ross's rap sheet). As seen in the below transcript excerpts, Ross's lawyer, Allan Zamren, asked Hernandez why Ross's case was assigned to the gang task force.
"Because your client claims affiliation with Carol City Cartel and other known gang members," Hernandez replied. The cop then directed Zamren to "some literature or video on U-Tube that you can pull up for yourself." Zamren then proceeded to press Hernandez on Ross's supposed gang ties. "Do you have anybody from a Carol City gang that you have information on or basis of any knowledge that says he is affiliated with them?" Hernandez answered, "No." Zamren then asked, "Do you have anything that shows you he was affiliated with any gang?" Hernandez replied, "No, I do not." Zamren also got Hernandez to acknowledge that, prior to the January 2008 bust, Ross had never been arrested in Miami-Dade County, where he has long resided. In response to a Freedom of Information request, a copy of the Hernandez deposition was provided to TSG by the Miami-Dade Office of the State Attorney, which is prosecuting Ross on the gun charge (the pot count was dropped).
