DR. WEBB'S ADVICE -Modeling and Acting 101

DR. WEBB'S PHOTO SELF-PORTAIT PHOTO

MODELING AND ACTING 101:

Top 5 Things to Know About The Industry Before Getting Started

1. Do your Homework...Investigate all the top agencies online for specifically what you want to do. If its modeling then the top four agency's are: Elite, Ford, Wilhemina, Click.. If its acting: You will probably have to get work first before you can get an agent. I suggest subscribing to Backstage Newspaper as well as online casting agencies like www.nycastings.com and www.actorsaccess.com

2. DO NOT PAY FOR PICTURES... It doesn't matter if someone promises you the lead role in a multimillion dollar film...You don't have to buy any pictures. There are plenty of photographers out there that will do TFP (Test for Print) shoots with you...What this means is that they will shoot you for free as long as you sign a release and they can use the pictures at their will. Also, if you go to any legit agency they will send you for a test shoot for free if they are interested in signing you.

3. If you are not already an outgoing person who has no problem with public speaking or being outlandish at will then you must get training. Whatever your craft, you need to have it perfected by being able to be bring it out of you at any given time. Most people are not naturally this way and need a bit of help.

4. AUDITION AUDITION AUDITION...If you are gonna be in this game, you have to have credits on your resume. Do not look down on doing extra work.. You must start somewhere....The problem with this industry is if you haven't done anything you will not be given the opportunity to do anything....lol...I know, it doesn't make sense but most casting directors look for name actors/actresses or people they can recognize as having worked before. Even if this means doing independent films, bit parts and extra work...that is what you have to do to get a good resume.

5. Focus on your appearance...Obviously, if you are focusing on modeling you have to truly be honest with yourself. If you are 5"4, 130 pounds you will not be in high fashion/runway...Just face it...Now if you have these same stats and are absolutely stunning then you would be fit for commercial/print modeling and should join an agency that focuses on just that. Now the truth...Most top agencies will not look at you if you are not 5"9 and skinny... So you will need to pound the pavement to look for a good agency.... When going to an audition make sure to dress neatly. If they do not ask for you to dress a particular way then just wear jeans and a t-shirt....clean and neat....Not too much makeup...

I will be answering any questions you may have in regards to Fashion, Auditions, THE BUSINESS, Style, Personal Growth...Anything you can think of...So ask away...

Love yall,
Dr. Webb
