BREAKING NEWS: Another Quake Strikes Indonesia

Another earthquake struck eastern Indonesia Tuesday evening. The 7.7 magnitude quake struck 125 miles from Sibolga on Sumatra Island at approximately 6:30 p.m. (EST).

This trembler is the latest in a series of earthquakes to rock Indonesia beginning in March. The USGS downgraded the earthquake from a 9.1 magnitude as initially reported.

A tsunami warning was issued, but scientists monitoring ocean buoys said a tsunami was unlikely.

Two quakes, one striking near the remote Saumlaki district, shook eastern Indonesia in March registering 5.9 and 7.0 on the Richter scale and came within hours of one another. Neither quake triggered tsunamis.

This is developing breaking news. Stay tuned for future updates.
