JAY-Z has signed Geno Smith to his ROC NATION Sports Agency so why is the NFL PLAYER'S ASSOCIATION SO UPSET? Because of an archiac rule that states "The applicable rule is simple. Only NFLPA-certified agents may be involved in recruiting players to sign with an NFLPA-certified agent."
This is the reason why the NFL is broken and being disrupted today. Our business model doesn't have to be one that keeps players from signing with agents who they feel will give them the best chance to survive the NFL(NOT FOR LONG) League. What is wrong with Jay-Z signing players..seriously? This is about race. Jay-Z is a businessman who deserves to give athletes the chance to go beyond the sports field. By setting up a deal with the CAA, he is giving the sports agency model a needed make over that has taken years to change.In this specific case, Smith chose a previously unknown agent (Miale) over a group of experienced agents. Miale happens to be employed by Jay-Z’s firm, and the circumstances suggest that Jay-Z was involved in some way in persuading Smith to hire Miale.
With ESPN specials like "Broke" that show how athletes spend their money unwisely...it just shows how the agent model needs changing..and is currently not for the benefit of any athletes who end up "broke".
