Ruben Santiago-Hudson is an award winning actor and playwright born in Lackawanna, New York to mother, Alean Hudson and his father, Ruben Santiago who was of Puerto Rican descent on November 24, 1956.
Santiago-Hudson is likely better known for his autobiographical play "Lackawanna Blues" which portrayed Santiago-Hudson in various roles (all played by Santiago-Hudson) of individuals from his past.
Adapted for a high acclaimed, 2005 award-wining HBO film, "Lackawanna Blues" went on to earn Santiago-Hudson Writers Guild of America nominations, the Humanitas Prize and an Emmy Award. In 1996, he earned a Tony Award for August Wilson's Seven Guitars and his Broadway appearance in "Jelly's Last Jam" was phenomenal.
Santiago-Hudson starred in silver screen hits like Eddie Murphy's Coming to America and American Gangster. His television appearances include NYPD Blue, New York Undercover, Law & Order, Law & Order SVU (with Lackawanna Blues co-star S. Epatha Merkerson), Third Watch and All My Children to name a few.
The playwright is a graduate of Lackawanna High school, earned his bachelor's degree from Binghamton University, and later earned his first of two master's degree from Wayne State University, followed by his doctorate from Buffalo State College. You can find Santiago-Hudson playing the role of New York City Police Captain Roy Montgomery in the ABC series,"Castle."
