The 2007 death of a child on Fort Bragg has led to the arrest of a woman who was once married to a Fort Bragg soldier.
After an investigation, conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Army's Criminal Investigation Command at Fort Bragg, Jennifer Arenivar, 26 of Texarkana, Arkansas was arrested in Texas on April 21 and charged with inflicting blunt force trauma on Joshua Xavier Arenivar on Aug. 5, 2007, during the commission or attempted commission of child abuse.
The U.S. Attorney's Office would not elaborate on how or if the victim was related to Arenivar.
Records at the Cumberland County Courthouse say Arenivar and former Fort Bragg Army Specialist, Rogelio Jaime Arenivar were married in May 2006 and had a child together, Noah Bradley Arenivar, who was born in July 2007.
Fort Bragg officials told the Fayetteville Observer Thursday afternoon that Rogelio Arenivar is no longer in the military.
Cumberland County records show that in 2008, Noah was in the custody of the Cumberland County Department of Social Services. A domestic violence complaint against Rogelio Arenivar was filed by Jennifer Arenivar in Cumberland County District Court in 2009.
In a statement to the court, Jennifer wrote, "He became physical during an argument. I tried to fight him, but he choked me and tied me up." She also stated that her son, Noah, was living with an aunt.
Arenivar, who made her first appearance in a Texas federal courtroom on Monday, faces life in prison or the death sentence convicted.
