Landlord Nabbed in Foiled Jersey City Pizzeria Bomb Plot

A New Jersey bomb plot foiled by neighbor on Monday who smelled a strong odor of gas and telephoned police has led to the arrest of a local landlord who police say is responsible for planting the explosive device.

Jersey City police arrested Milan Bolich Jr. in Jersey City for the thwarted bomb plot which police believe may have began over unpaid rent a former renter of the pizzeria owed to Bolich.

The bomb, described by Deputy Police Chief Peter Nalbach as "primitive," was encased in a gas can with a wire attached to it and was found inside a vacant pizzeria on the ground floor of a three-story building in the city's Heights neighborhood.

If the bomb had detonated, police say it could have destroyed the neighborhood.

Fire and police officials responded to the gas leak report and found the would-be bomb set to go off if the pizzeria's front door had been opened.

Bolich has been charged with criminal attempted aggravated arson, risking widespread injury and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
