The stakes are high for tomorrow nights Mega Millions jackpot. The pot is set to blow at $266 million for the lucky winner or winners. This is the largest pot up for grabs this year since dozens of states, including New Jersey and Delaware, started selling both Mega Millions and Powerball in January. The jackpot is worth an estimated $165.2 million in cash - before taxes.

Mega Millions lottery, formerly known as "The Big Game," is played in 12 U.S. jurisdictions and is known for its large jackpot prizes and long odds. In March 2007, the jackpot worth was split between two people, one in Georgia and the other right here in New Jersey. That jackpot was the biggest win in the world, to date at $390 million. Both players opted to receive lump sum payouts totaling $116,557,083.

In 2007, a man from Villas, New Jersey, a small town on the Jersey Shore, became one of four lucky winners in the Mega Millions $330 million drawing.

Mega Millions winning numbers drawn Friday night were: 14, 20, 41, 47 and 53, with a Mega Ball of 40.

A dozen players won $250,000 when they matched the first five numbers. New York, Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia each had one winner, while California had five.

The Powerball jackpot is worth a whopping $60 million, $29.6 million if the winner or winners elect for a cash settlement, for Wednesday nights drawing after no one hit all of Saturday's numbers: 16, 23, 25, 49 and 58, with a Powerball of 20. Players in Florida, New York and New Mexico claimed the first five numbers for a $200,000 cash payout each. No one had the winning combination along with the Power Play.

The largest Powerball jackpot pay out was in Nebraska in February 2006 when eight co-workers from a meat processing plant beat the 1-in-146.1 million odds when they bought the winning Powerball ticket worth $365 million.Their win set the record for the largest jackpot prize in the world for a single ticket. The lump sum was selected for payment and it was worth $177,270,519.67 which is the largest single prize paid by any Lottery to date.

Two weeks ago, a Missouri convenience store clerk, with three weeks on his job took a gamble. Down to $28.96 in his bank account, 29-year-old Chris Shaw bought a lottery ticket at the end of his shift. It paid off. Shaw claimed the Powerball jackpot worth $258.5 million. The young worker said he planned to use the winnings to pay off the $1,000 he owes a friend for a truck he bought, catch up on his utility bills, see a dentist about getting his two missing front teeth replaced, and take his three children and his girlfriend's children on a trip to Walt Disney World in Florida.

Saturday, a new month long Powerball promotion added a multiplier of 10 to the Power Play option. Be sure to get your ticket before the Wednesday evening drawing because you just might be the sole lucky winner or at least one.
