2010 Puerto Rican Day Parade Has Massive Turnout Despite Earlier Turmoil

The 2010 Puerto Rican Day Parade had a huge turnout! The humongous Puerto Rican flag blanketed Fifth Ave. as millions of members from the Puerto Rican community cheered and celebrated their heritage with music, food, dance, and parading.

The party began around 11 a.m. and Fifth Avenue turned into a strip of red, white and blue as scores of Latino revelers packed the street as floats and a vehicle carrying dignitaries and Latino super stars Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony passed by.

Dancers clad in traditional Puerto Rican dress provided the entertainment at the parade, which was cut from seven-plus hours to five hours. Still it did little to dampen the love and pride evident amongst spectators as the crowd cheered, danced and snapped photographs.

Early hoopla over board members selection for parade Padrino, telenovela star Osvaldo Rios, seemed to threaten turnout for the fiesta due to Rios' earlier Domestic Violence conviction, but thanks to a last minute change, dignitaries participated and the show went on.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez made appearances along with singer, actor Marc Anthony, who stepped up as parade Padrino even with the last minute notice, accompanied by su chula esposa, dona Jennifer Lopez, who was a vision of Latina loveliness as always.
