2 Chainz album drops as commodities - gold and silver

Rapper 2 Chainz received his gold plaque for “No Lie,” gold prices rose to new heights leading some with liquid income to freeze and some with disposable income to bling -- at the same time, according to reupspot.com

Yet, all in the sum of one week records were broken, albums turned golden and South Africans protested to resolve on-going salary disputes between platinum mining unions, according to reports

In a way, 2 Chainz career has come full circle with the economy — from the time when he was formerly known as Tity Boi – one half of the rap duo Playaz Circle, which stood for Preparing Legal Assets for Years from A to Z – to now when he can say he broke a record formerly held by Jay-Z.

Question.

In an industry like so many others that are losing value due to supply and demand - a business term as well as the name of Playaz Circle debut album -- might accolades and equality prove more essential in a south-bound economy? Or have we not broken the chains of poverty?

Here’s the reality.

It’s not a fad - economically fame, alcohol, drugs and dreams are safer investments and easier to sell, which may explain why fans of 2 Chainz feel his work is a piece of “work.”

Yet, folks with liquid income are not rushing to buy gold commodities — let alone a gold album as some who may have disposable income.

Whether it is silver or platinum, it is cheaper than Gold.

It’s unclear if that is why Kanye West “went to Jacob's and made the new Jesus Chains" in gold.

It's also unclear if he did so after noting that Hov was wearing platinum and not gold at such a time.

It is clear however that commodities such as gold costs $1,602 per ounce, compared to Platinum, which $1,399 and Silver, which is $27.76 per ounce, based on reports

So which is a better investment?

In no way am I saying Kim Kardashian is just some white girl. She's is just a "Bad B____," says Yeezy.

But, what I am saying is ... he invested in an asset.

Company behind Spider-Man and X-Men agrees to be acquired by Disney.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The Walt Disney Co. announced Monday that it has agreed to purchase comic book and action hero company Marvel Entertainment for about $4 billion.
The deal pairs a comic book publisher that just recently began to produce its own movies with one of the largest international media companies in the world.

"This is perfect from a strategic perspective," Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger told CNNMoney.com. "This treasure trove of over 5,000 characters offers Disney the ability to do what we do best."

NYTIMES: On to Plan B: Starting a Business

By MICKEY MEECE
Published: August 22, 2009
LL them accidental entrepreneurs, unintended entrepreneurs or forced entrepreneurs. A year and a half into the Great Recession, with the jobless rate hovering near double digits, corporate refugees like Lisa Marie Grillos of San Francisco are trying to fend for themselves.
Lynn Zuckerman Gray, at a meeting in a park in New York, lost her job and started a recruiting company called Campus Scout.

Along with her brother Hernan Barangan, Mrs. Grillos started Hambone Designs, after her full-time contract position with Williams-Sonoma as a production manager wasn’t renewed in January. The new company makes bicycle bags that hold things like keys, wallets and cellphones.

NYT: Bloggers are now getting book deals..any bloggers ready?

Public Provides Giggles; Bloggers Get the Book Deal
By JENNA WORTHAM

After Duncan Birmingham, a comedy screenwriter in Los Angeles, got one too many holiday cards featuring miserable-looking pets wearing fake reindeer antlers, he realized the photos were great material for a blog.

Mr. Birmingham started Pets Who Want to Kill Themselves in early January, uploaded the first entry and asked readers to contribute. Within days, visitors were supplying him with snapshots of bulldogs in bunny costumes and cats wearing wigs. The blogosphere noticed — and so did the publishing world. Within a week, he was contacted by editors and literary agents. By the second month, he said, he had sold a book based on the photos to Three Rivers Press, an imprint at Crown Publishing Group, for “enough money to buy a Lincoln Town Car” — with change left over.

Not bad for an unpublished novelist who is allergic to animals and admits that he is “terrible with computers.”

Of course, it’s not unusual for blogs to form the basis of books. For example, Christian Lander, author of the humor blog Stuff White People Like, wrote scores of blog entries and then reworked them into a popular 2008 book of the same name.

First major newspaper moves everything online..more to go?

Seattle Paper Shifts Entirely to the Web
By WILLIAM YARDLEY and RICHARD PÉREZ-PEÑA

SEATTLE — The Seattle Post-Intelligencer will produce its last printed edition on Tuesday and become an Internet-only news source, the Hearst Corporation said on Monday, making it by far the largest American newspaper to take that leap.

But The P-I, as it is called, will resemble a local Huffington Post more than a traditional newspaper, with a news staff of about 20 people rather than the 165 it had, and a site with mostly commentary, advice and links to other news sites, along with some original reporting.

Other newspapers have closed and many more are threatened. But the transition to an all-digital product for The P-I will be especially closely watched in an industry that is fast losing revenue and is casting around for a new economic model.

For one thing, the closing may end up putting greater pressure on the surviving and financially struggling Seattle Times, because of the end of a joint operating agreement between the two papers. It may even bring closer the day when Seattle has no local paper at all.

Aretha Franklin's Inauguration hat sales are at a steady growth

Orders for ‘Aretha’s Hat’ Still Going Strong
By MICHELINE MAYNARD

DETROIT — The vacant lots and hollow buildings abound across Detroit. But walk into Mr. Song Millinery on Woodward Avenue, north of downtown, and you are hit by two impressions: a riot of color and a constantly ringing telephone.

The color comes from row upon row of custom-designed ladies’ hats, from unassuming berets to the kind of lavishly decorated headgear seen at the races at Ascot. The sound of the phone is thanks to Aretha Franklin, who stepped to a microphone at President Obama’s inauguration in January wearing an eye-catching gray fur felt hat trimmed with a huge sloping, rhinestone bow.

Now, the hat’s creator, Luke Song, has more than 5,000 orders for the spring version of the Aretha Hat (he declines to make a replica of the actual model), available in a variety of pastel colors and selling for $179 apiece.
And more orders are bound to pour in because Mr. Song learned this week that Ms. Franklin has decided to lend her hat to the Smithsonian, where it will be on display until it moves to a permanent place in Mr. Obama’s presidential library.

While the nation had no idea what would be on Ms. Franklin’s head, Mr. Song knew it would be one of three models she had picked out. He learned which one only while watching her sing at the inauguration on the television in his crowded workroom.

IDEA OF NATIONALIZATION OF BANKS CAUSE STOCK SHARES TO FALL!

NEW YORK/FRANKFURT (Reuters) - Shares of Bank of America Corp and Citigroup Inc plummeted for the sixth straight day on Friday, hammered by increasing fears that the U.S. government could take the control of the banks, wiping out shareholders.

DONALD "YOU'RE FIRED" TRUMP FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY

Trump Entertainment files for bankruptcy
Tue Feb 17, 2009 10:18am EST
By Kyle Peterson
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc, the casino operator named for Donald Trump, filed for bankruptcy protection on Tuesday as recession and declining gambling revenues battered the company and its rivals.

The Chapter 11 filing marks the third plunge into bankruptcy for the company, which was created out of a restructuring in 2005. It also underscores the struggles facing the casino business as recession squeezes casino gambling.

Trump Entertainment owns and operates three casino hotels in Atlantic City, New Jersey, including the Trump Taj Mahal, Trump Plaza and Trump Marina.

15 COMPANIES THAT MIGHT SHUT DOWN IN 2009!!

15 Companies That Might Not Survive 2009
* Rick Newman
* Friday February 6, 2009, 11:53 am EST
Who's next?
With consumers shutting their wallets and corporate revenues plunging, the business landscape may start to resemble a graveyard in 2009. Household names like Circuit City and Linens 'n Things have already perished. And chances are, those bankruptcies were just an early warning sign of a much broader epidemic.
Moody's Investors Service, for instance, predicts that the default rate on corporate bonds - which foretells bankruptcies - will be three times higher in 2009 than in 2008, and 15 times higher than in 2007. That could equate to 25 significant bankruptcies per month.
