T.I Host LIV On Sunday to Kick off Hennessy V.S NYE Takeover

Last night in Miami, Hennessy V.S kicked off their "Hennessy V.S New Years Eve Takeover" with an exclusive event at LIV nightclub. Rapper / actor T.I. was in the house and performed a medley of his hits for the crowd including the latest off his top selling album, Trouble Man: Heavy Is the Head - which debuted at No.2 last week on the Billboard charts. Rapper T.I. Released from Federal Prison in Arkansas

Rapper T.I., shown left in a 2009 Easter photo with wife Tameka, a friend (in back) and his children, was released from a Federal prison complex in Forrest City, Arkansas on Tuesday after serving seven months of his sentence for weapons charges.

His original sentence was cut short for good behavior, his attorney Steve Sadow said.

The rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris Jr., will serve the remaining portion of his sentence at a correctional center in Fulton County, Georgia which comes to roughly three months. The rapper has been placed on house arrest for 23 days, ordered to perform 500 hours of community service in addition to a $100,300.00 fine.

In March of 2009, Harris was sentenced to 366 days in prison by federal prosecutors for furnishing his bodyguard with $12,000.00 to purchase machine guns and silencers.

It was not the first time the platinum-selling artist had been in trouble with the law. In 1998, Harris was convicted in a Cobb County courtroom of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and felony drug charges.His felony conviction meant he was not to possess or buy any weapons.

Will T.I. Bare All For PETA? By GIANT

With time to spare while incarcerated, bulking up may not be a bad idea for the Atlanta native. In promotion of PETA’s “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign, the Bankhead rapper has been asked to bare it all after his release from jail. Tip has strived to clean up his act and has been involved in community service since his recent stunt with the law. ”We’re asking T.I. to use his fame and his experiences to bare the truth about the fur industry by baring his skin,” PETA executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said.

The request was sent via mail to inmate # 59450-019 stating: “We read that you looked to Martha Stewart for advice on how to pass your prison time and come out on top. Did you know that she agreed to narrate an anti-fur public service announcement for PETA because she experienced first hand what it is like for the millions of minks, rabbits, and other animals…”

We’ll see if T.I. will take his community service commitment to the extreme. If you’ve noticed, PETA has a thing for ex-convicts. First Martha Stewart, then Khloe Kardashian, now T.I.?

What Will Jail Time Do To T.I.'s Career?

(CNN) -- There is an old saying: Out of sight, out of mind. But when rap star T.I. disappears from the hip-hop scene to complete his one-year, one-day sentence in federal prison, several music experts say, that won't be the case.
The self-proclaimed "King of the South" will be sticking around, thanks to the success of his most recent album -- the double-platinum, Grammy-nominated "Paper Trail," released last September -- his community service efforts and a reality show on MTV that has resonated with fans, they say.
"I think that if anything, it will gain him more fans and actually support his fan base, because he's talked about making a mistake," said Emil Wilbekin, editor in chief of Giant Magazine, which focuses on urban music and lifestyle and featured T.I. on its November 2008 cover. "He's talked about taking care of the error of his ways."
T.I., whose real name is Clifford Harris, was sentenced to prison in federal court in Atlanta, Georgia, last week on weapons charges. He will be taken into custody no earlier than May 19.
In addition to serving prison time, the court asked T.I., 28, to pay a $100,300 fine on weapons charges related to purchasing machine guns and silencers.
"I would like to say thank you to some and apologize to others," Harris said at his sentencing Friday. "In my life, I have been placed in the worst-case scenario and had to make the best of it."
Though he had been in legal trouble before, Harris' current situation began when he was arrested just hours before he was to perform at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta.

Can hip hop become socially active without a plea deal?

Hip hop used to be socially concious of everything political. Now rappers are shook off Rush Limbaugh. What happened to "Fight the power" and N.W.A.'s "F**k the police" type of songs. Rappers nowadays have been caught up in the bling and money of the game that some of them forgot where they came from made the lyrics they wrote. The game has changed from the days when rappers would think about songs to make that spoke volume about the plight of the "ghetto".

The streets haven't changed that much and Hip hop being the billion dollar industry it is now can give a few thousands of dollars back. I read this book by, Dr. Chika A. Onyeani, called Capitalist Ni**er, The Road to Success, that was recently reviewed in Hip Hop Weekly by Cavario as his top pick. Click here to buy the book.
Hip hop says that the streets are what feed them, but then a mansion is where they reside at. I feel these guys on living off the streets though..its not safe in 2009 and Haters are everywhere. What I'd like to see is the same urban capitalism used in the industry of Hip hop applied on a larger scale to the Black community. The Newbos of this industry have to come to terms with social activism being an empowering weapon that will not only help create new fans, but it will also become the norm for others on the come up to follow. Would there be anything wrong with giving 15 cents off of each album sale to a "Guns off the street program" or "Urban Entrepreneur" scholarship?

Hip hop has to try and become proactive in social activism if it hopes to survive in this age of "green" living and a President who started as a commmunity organizer. Check the credits on the back of the next album you buy and see if that hip hop artist truly understands what coming from the streets really means.

Even though he has to do it for community service, he seems like a really genuine person. I hope he makes a lasting, positive impression on these young men. Check out a sneak peak of episode two. T.I. takes TO at South Beach gig

South Beach was starstruck this past weekend, as celebs invaded the seaside playground.
But while Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson reportedly had a fistfight, the rest of the celebs who hit up Miami kept it a little more civilized.
Rapper T.I.’s tameness was court ordered. The performer who hit the stage at a packed bash at the Gansevoort had to be off and in his room by 1 a.m., per his felony weapons conviction stipulations, but the crowd continued to rage until the wee hours of the morning.
Since T.I. begins his one-year jail sentence in March, hopefully one of his last jaunts to Miami as a free man was a fun one.
Over at the Fountainbleu, the fire marshal was the biggest thorn in the side of the swanky hotel’s clubs. Diddy, who hosted a fete at LIV, was missing a few hundred guests who were stuck behind the velvet ropes.
“The club was half-full for a large portion of the night, because the fire marhsal literally held the door at the exact occupancy code,” said an insider.
