1 Hey guys, my name is Ameer Carter, and I'm a second-year interactive design student at the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). The Lady Geek's Topic of the Day: Finding George 2.0 A 3D LED TV  Journey:

Greetings dear readers, just a few weeks ago, I was lamenting the loss of the family Television, George. After thirteen years of loyal service, this beautiful '98 Toshiba projection screened television, the first "big" purchase in my adult life. He was all black and shiny and big, fresh from a 'real store' and boy was I happy with him! After saving for almost an entire year on a nanny's salary, George the Television arrived just in time for my first born son's birth.  Well, as you know, he's been chugging along as best he can these last few weeks, the color and sound quite steadily declining until today. Poor George will not power on at all. 

Well, you were with me on my journey to discovering the type of 'modern' television that would best suit my family.  Now with his passing, I'm forced to ask you to join me on my expedition to finding the EXACT perfect television fit for our family. Sometime later this week, most likely this Friday, we will be welcoming George 2.0 home.  So sit back and enjoy the ride while we compare and contrast the four final options in my search for George 2.0.

Greetings dear readers from the wonderful City of Brotherly Love!  As of this writing, I have just returned from a very exciting day of teaching. As you already know, this Lady Geek is a computer support technician and part of my services includes teaching the uninitiated and computer illiterate, the proper basic care and upkeep techniques as well as the ins and outs of their new equipment.  I love this aspect of my job, because I am free to express myself, indulge in my passions and protect the unprotected from those in 'Big Business' who would take advantage of them.

I only wish I could do more.  One of the best things about my life is the freedom I take for granted as an American. The freedom to dispense information without fear of retribution from 'Big Brother' has always been in my top ten list of great rights. Under this new Bill before the House, that freedom might soon be gone from not just me, but everyone who uses the internet.

As I write this, I am returning from a very wonderful journey through the mega sale that my favorite IT shop holds twice a year.  I can not tell you how thrilling it is to walk into this place, smelling that 'New Gadget" smell, knowing that I'm about to make a killer deal. 

I must admit, I got some great deals on products that weren't even near my budget just six months ago, but that's the thing about the computer world, isn't it?  Every six months something newer, better, speedier and more expensive hits the market, making the last "Big Thing" the embarrassingly obsolete and significantly less pricey "Old Thing".  That goes for computer components to televisions and even toilets in this day and age.  This brings me to my topic of the day: Future Tech.

Greetings dear readers and welcome to today's journey into the world of technology.  Last night, I found myself channel surfing with no real idea of what to watch. Friday night's at home are something quite unusual for this Geek Girl.  However, last night was one of those rare nights where none of my carefully made plans went through and so, here it was, about eight pm and the house was remarkably quiet.

Not feeling like reading or gaming and not wanting to picking a random episode of some favored show or movie on Hulu or Netflix, I instead reached for my remote and just started channel surfing with the intention of finding something  mind numbing to lose myself in for a few hours.  That's when I noticed something I hadn't seen in a week.  The Viacom channels were back in my Direct TV lineup!

Greetings dear readers, the Lady Geek here bringing you exciting news in the technological world.  You know, it's been quite a few years since this Lady was a small Geekling first entering the exciting, fast paced world of Kindergarten.  Back then we walked into a classroom decorated with brightly colored alphabet charts and smiling numerical pictures, there were play areas and board books and two of the most highly advanced things that technology offered at the time. That's right, both a record player as well as a tape recorder!

Oh those were the days! Well, here it is, the year 2012 and in a lot of America, education has come a long way.  We've gone from black boards to Smartboards and even from 'brick and mortar' public schools to Cyber Charter Schools. Now, thanks to recent reasearch and studies in several states, many kiindergarteners are set to begin the new school year with IPads and laptops.  Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the times, they are a changin'!

Greetings dear readers today is a beautiful day in Philadelphia, the sun is shining brightly, the humidity is at a minimum and my favorite coffee shop has a two for one special on these delightfully addictive double chocolate chip cookies.  After I returned home yesterday from a house call, setting up a network that included my client's new 3D Television, I was greeted at my door by four decidedly sour faces. "Mommy, something's wrong with George.", my littlest son said despondently, and I immediately ran to the living room to assess the situation at hand.

Dear readers, as of this writing, I must bring sorrowful tidings. After thirteen years of loyal service and performance, my favorite 'old school relic', a lovely 1998 Toshiba 60 inch projection screen television named George has finally started to show his age. His color seems to be permanently stuck on bright orange for people and dark blue for background while his sound has become quite choppy and sketchy.  George the television has provided countless hours of entertainment, family bonding and even education but now his time has come.  Please indulge me as I call for a moment of silence in remembrance of our friend, George the Television....

Thank you.  Now, as you have gotten to know me by now, my next statement should be of no surprise.  Let the research for my shopping trip begin!

Greetings dear readers, I hope your summer so far is as enjoyable as mine has been.  As of this writing, I have just returned from a wonderfully relaxing stint exploring summer in Philadelphia with my family. We took a historical walk through Center City, acted like tourists as we followed the paths our forefathers took on the path of revolution, strolled along the riverfront, stopping to listen to the free performances. Yes, it was relaxing and beautiful and hot and full of Philadelphia's renowned history, food and art. You know, being a Philadelphian born just shy of Independence day tends to give on a unique attitude about the meaning of justice, honor and equality for all. 

That being said, let me be the first to say I do not like being bullied, especially by big corporations which leads me to today's topic...

Hello, Lady Geek here with today’s installment of the tales of my technological life. I must admit, it feels good to be back, and I hope you missed me as much as I’ve missed you.  As of this writing, I am enjoying a purely non technical moment in time, relaxing in the “Mom Cave” that my children and husband gifted me with last month in celebration of yet another Geeklet to be. It’s so lovely and bright, freshly painted in different hues of greens and blues with my favorite chair positioned ‘just so’ right next to the shelves full of books, ready for story time or relaxation into another world.

At the well loved desk is my new computer chair, thoughtfully provided by my best friend and on the desk are my precious electronics, ready for my return to the fast paced world of computer repair and support at any given time.  During my hiatus, a truly remarkable thing occurred in the technological world. Google has finally released the long-awaited entry into the cloud storage scene, Google Drive. Add that with Microsoft’s revamped SkyDrive and what we have before us is true competition to my favorite cloud storage program, Dropbox. 

This Lady Geek is nothing if not thorough in her investigation, so without further adieu, my topic of the day.

The valley is about to make more money. Facebook's valuation is said to be $100 billion in the ipo. There's nothing wrong with making money..of course we all want some. The problem is that the overwhelmingly white and some asian demographic of co-founders and engineers set to get a payday was closed to african-americans.
Who's crying!? Definitely not me.
