Opinion: Don't cry for Dorner if you're black

Photo/LAPD

By geekswagg

Yes racism played a huge part of Chris Dorner's death, but don't cry for him. What about his innocent victims. Who will cry for them? The couple about to be married? Quan's daughter and her fiance Keith Lawrence. The two cops just doing their jobs.

Worldstarhiphop.com is making money off of your content..so why don't they share the wealth?

By geekswagg

After reading about wshh's 500 million impressions/per day on Madame Noire's brilliant article on violence against women, the thought comes up that if they're getting paid from your content..then why can't you make money as well?

The death of the black leading man on tv and its effect on our black boys

By geekswagg

So many times on tv we are now more than ever faced with the lack of black males in leading roles. The power of the media makes us believe that men of color should only be thugs, sidekicks, and "court jesters". In the world of "white" Hollywood when does it become acceptable to place the black male as a lead character?

There have been many a critic and many a supporter of the new Quentin Tarantino film, “Django Unchained.” Whether you were a fan of the film or not, the one thing you have to admit is that for all the controversy, it did become a major box office hit. In the midst of blockbuster films flopping left and right, this movie, which debuted December 25th 2012 has brought in over 100 million dollars in ticket sales already! This is major for a movie that wasn’t a high action, sci-fi or family flick.

Single Forever or Happily Ever After

I use to believe in the fairy tales that one day I would meet the man of my dreams and we would get married, have kids, and just live happily ever after together in our beautiful home. Well now that I am older I wonder, will I ever have that happy ending?  Don’t get me wrong yes one day I would like to have the husband, the kids, but the older I get I start to think maybe that is not what God has in store for me. Now do any other women feel this way? I know I can’t be alone.

Today for alot of States it is the deadline to register to vote. Voting is so much more deeper then just getting who you want to be in office. Yes that is important but there is a history behind it that should be respected.

The time to end out of school suspensions is now

The recent report from the Schott Foundation, shows that only 52 percent of black males graduate high school and 58 percent of latino males.

A stark contrast when you look at white males with a rate of 78 percent. Let's stop out of school suspensions now and let's work as a community to bring african-american and latino males to a higher standard in education.
The full press release from the schott foundation is below.

"Letter to Chief Keef" by Sebastian Elkouby

Chief Keef,

I hope this letter reaches you alive and free from incarceration. Looks like you got yourself in a serious mess. Following this whole Lupe Fiasco drama, seems like the media, Facebook, Twitter and anyone with a voice has something to say about you. The truth is, as a 17 year old kid with limited "real" life experience, you're not really built to handle your new found fame and the predicament you now find yourself in. I know you feel that you have plenty of experience handling shit on your block but this is much bigger than the streets, lil' homie. Being investigated for your crew's involvement in the possible murder of a so-called rival may lead to the end to your new found success and freedom.

Guest Blogger..Mike Green: Will Romney's Run Expose Lack of Diversity in Private Equity Industry?

Will Romney's Run Expose Lack of Diversity in Private Equity Industry?
By Mike Green
Aug. 27, 2012
The New York Times proclaimed that Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is heading into the GOP convention this week in Tampa, Florida determined to ratchet up the combative rhetoric against President Barack Obama. The reason? He believes it is the best tactic to appeal to white working-class Americans. According to the Times:
"Mitt Romney is heading into his nominating convention with his advisers convinced he needs a more combative footing against President Obama in order to appeal to white, working-class voters and to persuade them that he is the best answer to their economic frustrations."
In September, the Private Equity and Venture Capital industry will attend an annual Private Equity Analyst Conference hosted by Dow Jones. One of the myriad discussions by the nation's elite and powerful investment community will be Mitt Romney's high profile impact upon the private equity industry. Here's the agenda item to be presented at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City on Sept. 20 that will close out the first day of the conference:

Why is this generation of black filmmakers scared of the bio pic?

By Geek Swagg

Watching J.Edgar, the biographical movie based on the historically flawed, innovative head of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, it puzzles me why the african american filmmakers of today ignore their rich history.
The J. Edgar Hoover bio pic displayed the complicated nature of the man who some say was the "most powerful man in America."

Reality Check: BFV's Vince and Tamar need a surrogate...as long as they're white

By GEEK SWAGG
Last night we saw Vince and Tamar in desperate need of a surrogate for their fertility problem. The only problem that wasn't addressed is the absence of african-american surrogates. Was their a test of some kind given where all of the black women failed? Why do Vince and Tamar want to use white women so bad to carry their baby?

Real Talk: Nike and Lebron James are like drug dealers at Thanksgiving

NIKE AND KING JAMES

By Geek Swagg
The new Lebron James sneakers costs over three hundred dollars. That money is going to be well spent by millions of young black males in the inner cities. Will this new sneaker give them any more hops? Money? Groupies? Wealth? Nike stock? The answer to all of these questions is..no.

A Letter to Black males in Florida and other black men who are victims of racism

By geek swagg

The recent killing of a young black male handcuffed in the back of a police car, Chavis Carter,  makes you think. If you're a black man..what is my life worth.
Well..you're life is worth the same as everyone else.
The recent admission that the San Francisco police made up arrests of aa males, proves that there is a systemic campaign to paint aa males in a negative light. This has been going on for years, and its just coming to light.

A Special Topic from The Lady Geek: "Mixed Girls and Mamas"

A Special Essay From the Lady Geek

"Mixed Girls and Mama's": A Personal Journey

"..she raised me to never ever forget I was on parole, which means no black hoodies in wrong neighborhoods, no jogging at night, hands in plain sight at all times in public, no intimate relationships with white women, never driving over the speed limit or doing those rolling stops at stop signs, always speaking the king's English in the presence of white folks, never being outperformed in school or in public by white students and most importantly, always remembering that no matter what, white folks will do anything to get you.

...Mama's antidote to being born a black boy on parole in Central Mississippi is not for us to seek freedom; it's to insist on excellence at all times...There ain't no antidote to life, I tell her. How free can you be if you really accept that white folks are the traffic cops of your life? Mama tells me that she is not talking about freedom. She says that she is talking about survival."

A Special Topic from The Lady Geek: "Welfare Reform" from a Former Welfare Recipient

A Special Message from The Lady Geek

"Welfare Reform" from a Former Welfare Recipient

Greetings dear readers, I usually like to begin my articles with snippets of my life through Philadelphia. As a home town, Philly is really quite nice for those of us interested in expanding our minds, the birthplace of the nation and home of such forward thinkers as Benjamin Franklin. We have the famous Art Museum, as well as Historical tours of the Olde City, there's the first American Zoo along with one of America's largest urban park systems, Fairmount Park.

Right now, in 2012, my children and I take as much advantage of all of the amenities afforded to us, but there was a time, not so very long ago, where the doors to almost all of these things were closed to my four children and I.  For far too many people within city limits, these doors are destined to remain closed. You see dear readers, once upon a time I, the Lady Geek once received governmental assistance, otherwise known as Welfare - just like the twenty-nine million other American citizens are currently doing.

The Lady Geek's Topic of the Day: The Lady Geek is Anti-Marriage/Pro Gay Choice

Another Special Message from The Lady Geek

The Lady Geek is Anti-Marriage/Pro Gay Choice

Greetings dear readers from the City of Brotherly Love! It is a lovely summer day here in Philadelphia as my children and I return from a fun day of shopping. Currently, I am relaxing in my favorite armchair, eating a cherry water ice and contemplating a topic that’s been plaguing this country that I love so much.

Is the GOP/Tea Party and the United States scared of a "Brown" America?

Ziti
BLKUTIMES

With the recent report that minorities are taking over in big cities in regards to population..it makes me think is this why the "Tea Party" was formed. The only "Tea Party" that I remember was the one I read about in history books. This "Tea Party" fought for things like taxing without representation and England's stronghold of the New country, America. This 2011 "Tea Party" is nothing more than a bunch of privileged ,arrogant, people who have nothing but hate for this President. Has anyone ever seen a President so disrespected by people who are benefiting from the plans he put in place. Its truly amazing for them to be so audacious in their actions.

A Few Tips on Love & Relationships

By Destinee Love
Love and relationships fade with time no matter who you might be. To stop this from happening, you both need to take the initiative and rekindle the flame. If you don't, you might hit a dead-end in the relationship.  Here are some necessary tips that you should take into account to keep your relationships alive and the love flowing.

Take some quality time out to spend with the one you love. Sometimes we get so caught up in this busy world that we forget about our relationship. A relationship is built out of communication, love, and time. So make time for your relationship and ensure that you or they don’t get bored with it. Share what’s going on in your life at the moment. Always tell them about your ups and downs. Let them comfort you and you comfort them.

Show them that you care! Surprise them with a home cooked meal or take them out to one of their favorite restaurants. You can also take them out on a unexpected date! The unexpected can be very satisfying and so fun. So don't be afraid to do something new and exciting. Just make sure your partner will like it as much as you do.

Always show an interest in your partner’s life. When you ask them how was their day, make sure you listen attentively! They should not only be a partner but a best friend. You should always be able to tell each other your problems and goals. Always be interested in what they have to say and they will always communicate with you freely, which is my next tip of advice.  If you don't like something your partner has said or done tell them. Communication is crucial when it comes to relationship. The better communication you have the more open your relationship will be. You should never have to worry about telling your partner anything!

Never humiliate or ridicule your partner. The last thing you want to do is bring something up from the past or humiliate them. Your partner should be the person that you trust, care for, and above all love. Humiliating and ridiculing is just a big NO.   Remember, men and women think very differently and you need to take this into account. Men tend to use their minds while women will use their feelings. Use this to your advantage to make your partner happier. Always try to see in different perspectives and eventually you will be able to understand your partner better.

Lastly, find a proper balance between independent and dependence. You don't want to be too "clingy". Your partner will feel irritated and trap and eventually leave you. However you don't want to act too "cool" as to drive your partner away because they feel they can't connect with you. Try to never overdo something or under-do. This is something that you will have to learn with observation alone. Eventually you will figure it all out and find your balance; remember to keep it.
Much Love, and Remember to “Keep It Sexi!”
